The EurAc network welcomes the EU’s decision not to renew its support to Rwanda under the European Peace Facility

As the assistance provided to Rwanda under the European Peace Facility (EPF) is set to expire in May, the EurAc network has issued a brief statement welcoming the decision by EU member states not to renew this support. This decision marks an important step toward a more coherent, credible, and human rights-centered EU foreign policy in the Great Lakes region.

In this new EurAc statement “If Humanitarian Urgency Must Be a Priority, It Should Be Part of a Broader European Response to the Crisis in the Great Lakes”, we call on the EU and its Member States to take a firmer stance in support of civilian protection, justice, human rights, and, more broadly, international law.

Conference report "Pathways to Stability: Rethinking the EU's role in the Great Lakes"

On 2 October 2025, EurAc and the Just Future Alliance were pleased to welcome more than 150 participants in Brussels for a day of discussion devoted to the future of European action in the Great Lakes region. This report aims to present the key ideas, analyses, and lines of reflection from this day of exchange. It also sets out a series of recommendations and proposed actions for European decision-makers, which were collectively developed during the various workshops.

Communiqué in reaction to the announcement of new financial support for Rwanda under the European Peace Facility (EPF)

On 18 November, the EU Council approved the renewal of €20 million in aid to Rwanda via the European Peace Facility (EPF). The EurAc network strongly condemns this decision, which risks exacerbating the already precarious humanitarian and security situation in Eastern the DRC and further contributing to the destabilisation of the region.
