Maendeleo-Italia

Maendeleo-Italia is a non-profit association working for social welfare and to protect and promote the rights of women and families, with particular attention given to the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The association is apolitical and non-confessional, and it brings together all those who share the principles of solidarity and promotion of peace, the defense of the rights of women and their family .The activities of the association are carried out both in Italy and abroad, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

To achieve its objectives, Maendeleo-Italia is working:

  • To raise funds to finance projects in Africa (particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo)
  • To organise outreach events on the situation in Africa (particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo)
  • To promote human rights and the rights of women and families, through awareness raising campaigns, lectures, screenings & development projects
  • To participate in the life of the network in Italy and worldwide, working for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the African Great Lakes region.

The project beneficiaries are especially women and children living in situation of vulnerability in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly women who are members of Maendeleo Ya Jamii Association (Myja ASBL) based in Goma. Maendeleo-Italia has chosen an integrated approach to meet their needs, which implies that it is not limited to a single aspect of their problems, but trying to address them in their entirety (through education and vocational training, against unemployment and low income, promoting access to credit, potable water and hygienic-health training).
