Action Damien

In 1964, several organizations raising funds for leprosy patients in Belgium came together and gave birth to Damien Foundation. Grouped under the "butterfly heart", the foundation follows in the footsteps of Damien, Raoul Follereau and Frans Hemerijckx, and participates in the fight against leprosy, tuberculosis and leishmaniosis in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Damien Foundation wants to improve worldwide the fight against diseases caused by poverty, such as leprosy and tuberculosis, through targeted medical actions and through the social rehabilitation of patients in the South. For this, they raise awareness of people living in the North and organize fundraising campaigns thanks to dedicated staff and volunteers.

The fight against poverty-related diseases requires a structured approach over the long term. Damien Foundation works closely with governments, partner organizations, scientific institutions and volunteers - both in projects on the ground and in Belgium.

In Central Africa, the NGO develops various projects to support national programs to fight against leprosy and tuberculosis in Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.
